Le Baroudeur de l’Est is an experimental blog that has been on my mind for several years. It’s a blend of travel, advice, cultural, and culinary exchanges.
Through this platform, I want to share what I love, hoping that some stories, tips, and recommendations might inspire a few of you to embark on physical journeys, culinary adventures, or simply travel through your imagination. I also aim to offer a different perspective on travel by sharing my personal touch—the idea of taking the time to appreciate what surrounds us when we choose to leave home for exciting adventures and to refine our palate.
- Here, you will find :
- The travel diaries of my main cycling journeys, allowing you to discover the viewpoint of a young adventurer exploring countries and cultures far removed from France, but especially the specifics of crossing vast distances at the pace of kilometers and the exhaustion of muscle fibers. We know how to enjoy ourselves even in physical and mental pain, don’t worry.
- My tips for cycling travel. Nothing more intidmidating then start such adventures from scratch without any advices. I will share all my relevant tips for a bikepacking journey : choice of material, road planning, budget and organisation. I will attempt to bring answers to anyone interested to ride their mecanical horse for a more or less long adventure. Feel free to comment or write to me for any questions / suggestions.
- Recipes from the countries I’ve traveled through, which you can make your own. Smelling the dish discovered through your travel always brings memories back to life and a sweet and poetic nostalgia.
I’m Florent, a young Alsatian nearing thirty. A casual traveler, before the age of 20, I hadn’t seen much beyond the neighboring countries of my native Alsace (Germany and Switzerland), with a bit of Italy and Spain. Since then, a series of decisions have led me to discover more and more countries to the east of our own. First, an internship in New Zealand for a complete change of scenery on the other side of the world. Then, my first cycling trip through the Balkans, which forever ignited my desire to explore other cultures and my fascination with the countries of Eastern Europe. Recently, I was able to spend two months traveling through Japan (Honshu, the main island) to fulfill a dream that had been on my mind for some time, pushing my eastern excursions to their maximum. I remain curious and resourceful in navigating all technically complicated situations, despite a few (many) practical shortcomings.
As a graduated engineer, I’ve always worked abroad, first in Germany, then in Slovakia. So, I’ve had plenty of time to roam around, and I’m now quite familiar with Central and Eastern Europe.
My hobbies are obviously travel, cooking, and cycling, but also the exploration of the cultures I’ve been fortunate enough to discover. The passion from cooking came from my Mom when she asked me to help while baking fantastic pastries (no wonder I ended up with a sweet tooth 😛 , YUM)
Unrelated to the rest, but I absolutely love American football, because why not, right?
Thank you in advance for reading my content. I hope my adventurer’s perspective, with a few (more or less) subtle jokes, will catch your eye. While I wait to hear your feedback, take care of yourselves.
